Bringing Sustainable Evolution to the Table
To protect the dining experience of tomorrow, we advance environmentally conscious manufacturing.
Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing
NARUMI’s mission is to create elevated, joy-filled moments in everyday life—and to bring genuine smiles to the people we serve.
Eating is elemental. Tableware is more than an implement; it is a medium of connection, capable of turning the ordinary into the memorable.
Our ambition extends beyond customers and their circles. Through our products and the principles that govern their making, we seek to widen that sense of well-being to society—and to the planet.
To protect the dining experience of tomorrow, we advance environmentally conscious manufacturing. We prioritize new material development and continually cut waste across production, offering choices more considerate of the earth.
We believe the care we invest in tableware enriches time around the table—and that such moments, multiplied, create a ripple of happiness. Looking ahead, NARUMI will continue to deliver quality time—beautifully made.
Overview of the New Material
Overview of the New Material
New Possibilities Born
from Eggshells
Eggs and bone china share a common element: calcium. NARUMI Bone China uses over 40% calcium phosphate (bone ash), while eggshells are composed of over 90% calcium carbonate. Applying decades of grinding and firing expertise from bone china production, we have turned eggshell byproducts into an upcycled material. We have already begun integrating it into the bone china body across our production line, and we will gradually increase its share over time.

Overview
of the New Material
As part of our ongoing effort to use more sustainable resources, we have increased the use of recycled materials ¹, such as defective products generated in the manufacturing process.
We also replaced a portion of the calcium component with an upcycled material by eggshells.
As a result, products made with this new material contain over 50% sustainable resources.
¹Recycled materials : Defective products generated in the manufacturing process. The defective products are crushed and returned to a raw state to be reborn as part of the raw materials for new products.

This shift reduces our reliance on conventional resources and supports a new line of business: producing and supplying eggshell-derived calcium powder for use in tableware and beyond.
Utilizing recycled materials requires adjustment and careful control of raw material composition and manufacturing processes.
Through these continuous efforts, we maintain the same quality and performance while pursuing more sustainable production.
Although such initiatives may involve additional cost, we view them as an essential step in our journey—step beyond.

Application Areas
of Eggshell Materials

Eggshells have potential applications beyond raw materials for bone china. Through various processing steps and combinations with other materials, they could be utilized across a wide range of industries, including exterior and interior design, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
